What I work on: SEO, websites and research

Most useful work starts with a clear question. Here are the areas I spend time on and the kinds of details I pay attention to.

SEO for businesses in Malaysia

Most of my website work through Total Web Solutions is search engine optimisation for small and medium businesses (SMEs) in Malaysia: clinics, B2B suppliers, design studios and online shops. If you are looking for an SEO specialist in Malaysia, this is how I approach the work, and where its limits are.

  1. Start with an SEO audit

Before changing anything, I check what is already there. A technical SEO audit looks at whether search engines can crawl and index the site, how fast the pages load, whether the layout is responsive on phones, and where links are broken or pages repeat each other. It usually shows a few problems worth fixing first.

  2. Keyword research around real searches

Keyword research tells me how people in Malaysia actually describe what they need, in English or Bahasa Malaysia, and whether they are ready to buy or still comparing. Pages are then planned around that search intent, including local searches such as a service in Kuala Lumpur, Penang or Ipoh.

  3. On-page SEO and content

On-page SEO covers the details on each page: titles, headings, internal links, images and structured data. The bigger part is the SEO content itself. I want each page to answer a real question clearly, so the content strategy follows what customers ask, not a keyword count.

  4. Local SEO for Malaysian businesses

For businesses that serve one area, local SEO matters as much as the website. That means a complete Google Business Profile, consistent business details across the web, and pages that make the location and service area clear.

  5. Search is changing with AI

AI search, including Google’s AI Overviews and tools like ChatGPT, now answers many questions before anyone clicks. Traditional SEO still matters here: clear, accurate, well-structured pages are what these tools quote. I am still learning how AI search visibility works, and I test changes on my own sites first.

  6. Off-page SEO, done carefully

Links and mentions from relevant Malaysian websites help, but shortcuts can hurt a site. I prefer slower off-page SEO: real directories, partners, suppliers and local media where the business genuinely belongs.

  7. Measuring organic growth

Progress is measured in organic traffic, positions in the search results for the keywords that matter, and, most importantly, enquiries. Clients on an SEO retainer get a plain report each month on what changed and what we will do next.

Frequently asked questions about SEO

Questions people often ask before working with an SEO specialist in Malaysia.

How long does SEO take to work?

Usually months rather than weeks. Fixes from an SEO audit can help quickly, but organic growth from new content and links builds over time and depends on how competitive the keywords are.

Can you guarantee first-page rankings on Google?

No. Nobody controls Google’s results, so I don’t promise rankings. What I can promise is careful work, honest tracking and a clear explanation of what is and isn’t working.

Should I choose SEO or Google Ads?

They do different jobs. Google Ads brings paid visibility as soon as a campaign starts, while SEO builds visibility you don’t pay for per click. Many businesses use both: ads for immediate enquiries and SEO for steady growth.

How much do SEO services in Malaysia cost?

It depends on the size of the site, the competition and how much content is needed. Total Web Solutions lists its SEO packages and pricing on its website, and a free review is the easiest way to see what your site needs.

Do I need a new website before starting SEO?

Not always. Many sites only need technical fixes and better content. A new website makes sense when the current one is slow, hard to update or built in a way that limits SEO work.

Do you only work with businesses in Kuala Lumpur?

No. The team works remotely with businesses across Malaysia, and also in Singapore and Australia.
